Formation initiale

The ‘English Studies – Translation and Publishing’ MA course stands in logical continuity with a BA (‘licence’) degree in English Studies. Students will have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of key fields within English Studies. They will be given intensive classes in literary translation (from English into French and from French into English) and they will also broaden their translating practice (translating non-fiction, translating children’s and YA literature, theatre translation, audio-visual translation – with an introduction to subtitling, dubbing, and voice-over –, for instance).

This MA course will train high-profile scholars and specialists in translation and translation studies. With its combination of theoretical and applied approaches, it will prepare students for job prospects in several areas such as academic research, teaching in secondary and higher education, professional translation, and publishing.

Modules
In both Year 1 and Year 2 of the Translation and Publishing MA course, students will be taught core topics in English Studies (methodology, lateral skills, research epistemology). They will also be able to attend specific modules in translation and translation studies (see "brochure" attached) within the English Department, with the possibility of broadening the choice outside of English Studies (during their M2) and/or of doing an internship (M2), depending on each student’s individual project.

Each student will build their course plan around a tailored project, under the supervision of a faculty member who will be their main point of contact throughout the two years of the course. Students will also be able to attend methodology and writing workshops that will help them craft their projects.
