Formation initiale

The ‘English Studies – Translation and Publishing’ MA course stands in logical continuity with a BA (‘licence’) degree in English Studies. Students will have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of key fields within English Studies. They will be given intensive classes in literary translation (from English into French and from French into English) and they will also be able to focus on skills specifically needed today in the publishing industry (translating non-fiction, including academic texts in the Humanities, translating comics, translating children’s and YA literature, theatre translation, translating new media, localization, audio-visual translation – with an introduction to subtitling, dubbing, and voice-over –, for instance).

They will also be given the opportunity to acquire a further set of skills in the field of book history applied to translation and in today’s publishing industry (both paper and digital) in France and in Europe.

This MA course will train high-profile scholars and specialists in translation and translation studies while providing an opening onto the world of publishing. With its combination of theoretical and applied approaches, it will prepare students for job prospects in several areas such as academic research, teaching in secondary and higher education, professional translation, and publishing.
