Objectifs
This seminar will retrace theories of sexual, domestic, and reproductive labor in several currents of feminist thought in the United States from the 1960s on, including liberal feminism, radical feminism, Marxist feminism, Black feminism, queer theory, and intersectional feminism. How are power, sexuality, and the exploitation of bodies articulated within these theories? What strategies are proposed for liberating the labor of oppressed groups, and for fostering solidarity and mutual understanding among individuals and communities? The semester corpus will include feminist authors such as Betty Friedan, Catharine MacKinnon, Andrea Dworkin, Adrienne Rich, Silvia Federici, Selma James, the Comabahee River Collective, bell hooks, Paola Tabet, and Sophie Lewis.
