This seminar will introduce the basic elements and principles of conflict analysis and their application to conflict sensitivity, prevention, and peacebuilding from the UN perspective.
Conflict is a relationship between two or more parties (individuals or groups) who have, or think they have, incompatible goals, values, interests or claims to status, power or scarce resources.
Conflict Analysis is a tool that aims at better understanding conflict to ensure, your interventions are conflict sensitive. In a practical and structured process of examining the reality of a conflict, Conflict Analysis is the first step towards creating a deeper understanding of what drives conflict, and which dynamics can potentially promote peace.
There are many approaches to Conflict analysis. Across guidelines, there are four main elements to Conflict Analysis:
Situation profile, Causial analysis, Analysis of Peace and Conflict Dynamics, and Inclusive Stakeholder Analysis (including youth, gender, etc).
