Objectifs

This seminar looks at the way UK's vision of its role in Europe and the world since the New Labour governments1997 and the dilemmas which the various governments faced in the last 25 years. After a theoretical introduction looking at different foreign policy interpretations, we will analyse the main dimensions of British foreign policy. We will look at the issue of Brexit, its causes and consequences, and the challenges it poses the redefinition of foreign policy. We will also analyse the evolution of the ‘special relationship’ with the USA and Britain’s post-Brexit ‘tilt’ towards the Indo-Pacific, as well as the debates on external military interventions, from Kosovo to Ukraine.
